First, you need the handy-dandy Dash waffle maker.  We ordered ours on Amazon.com because our Target was out of them.  This cute little kitchen gadget comes in teal, pink, red, and black.

Keto Pizza Chaffle Recipe Ingredients

  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • Just a pinch of Italian seasoning
  • No sugar added pizza sauce (about 1 tablespoon)
  • Top with more shredded cheese, pepperoni (or any of your favorite toppings)

Here’s a short video showing you how to make a keto Chaffle:

Keto Pizza Chaffle Recipe Instructions

  1. Preheat the Dash waffle maker.
  2. In a small bowl, whip the egg and seasonings together.
  3. Mix in the shredded cheese.
  4. Add a tsp of shredded cheese to the preheated waffle maker and let it cook for about 30 seconds.  This will help to create a more crisp crust.
  5. Next, add half the mixture to the waffle maker and cook it for about 4 minutes until it’s golden brown and slightly crispy!
  6. Remove the waffle and add the remaining mixture to the waffle maker to make the second chaffle.
  7. Top with a tablespoon of pizza sauce, shredded cheese, and pepperoni.  Microwave it on high for about 20 seconds and voila!  Instant Chaffle PIZZA!

There are three important things you need to know about making Chaffles.

  1.  Make sure your waffle machine is nice and hot before you add the mixture.
  2. Make sure your waffle iron has a nice nonstick surface.  I’ve seen many fails when you use an older waffle maker that doesn’t have a good nonstick base to it.
  3. Make sure you are cooking your chaffles long enough to get them nice and crispy.  If you open the lid too soon, the chaffle will be melty and cheesy…  You can also add a small amount of cheese to the waffle iron before you place the batter too.  This will create a nice and crispy crust!

  1. These Chaffle recipes look fantastic! I was just wondering if using the waffle iron is required. I don’t own one, but I do have a Five-Minute Chef, which is kind of like a Panini Press. Would that work?

    1. I don’t think a Panini press would work… doesn’t that machine leave a gap? Baking it will absolutely work though! Do you have the Keto Friendly Recipes: Easy Keto for Busy People cookbook? On page 30, there’s a cheese bread recipe and it’s the same base as a chaffle recipe. It gives details for baking it.

This is my third chaffle recipe I’ve tried. Tried one each day this week. Both of the other successful recipes I tried both had almond flour and baking powder and without these two ingredients there is a definite difference. Less of a solid waffle and more eggy tasting. Also with being for a pizza chaffle I thought maybe the addition of a little garlic powder would help this recipe out a little more as well. It’s still edible, I will try again by adding those ingredients next time.

Great recipe! I added 2 oz. steamed cauliflower mash to the basic pizza chaffle recipe. Really improved texture substantially.

I just made this for mushroom burgers and I really didn’t think this would be a hit. Omg they were amazing. The tip about putting the cheese in first is top notch for the crunch. I really thought you were crazy when I read that. This was soooo good!! I am off to make a bunch of different kinds and freeze them. Thank you so much for this! Pizza tonight mmmm.

  4. Great recipe, I used Del Grosso pizza sauce, 2 net carbs per 1/4 cup. Did not get the cheese to brown like the pics. Overall a great recipe!

This looks so good! I’ve been living under a rock, because I’m just now finding out about chaffles! I was wondering, after they’re done in the waffle maker, they still kinda look limp/soggy. Could they be put in the toaster real quick afterwards to get them a bit more crispy?

    Thanks!

I absolutely enjoyed this recipe. I did switch it up a bit after adding the toppings and broiled it instead of the 20 seconds in the microwave but it is definitely a repeat for me.
