How To Get Back On Track With KETO!
How to get back on track with the ketogenic diet
Who has gone off track and needs to get back to Low Carb or Keto???
THE STRUGGLE IS REAL!!! I hear you!! Loud and clear!!
I will admit that I got a little side tracked when my daughter started requesting that I teach her how to bake with yeast. She wanted non-keto bread like treats that she could do a porch delivery to her best friends because many stores were out of bread and her friends were NOT keto. Ugh!
It was the first time in 3 years that I bought flour and real sugar. I wasn’t worried though. I have been keto for 3 years!!! I’ve walked past bakery before and turned up my nose with no issues.
Besides, my teen wanted me to teach her something new!!! I will take that all day long!! Quality time with teens becomes more rare they older they get. Or so it seems.
We did it! We made some of the most amazing amish sweet bread. It was a recipe I had on the blog a long time ago. My daughter was so excited to learn. I was so excited to teach.
But, when the bread started to bake, I started to smell that amazing homemade bread smell…. ugh! It was really hard. Like, really hard!
The bread came out of the oven. She went to grab a steak knife to cut it! I stopped her immediately and told her about the large bread knife I have and why we use it. Then I TOUCHED THE WARM BREAD!!!! OH, MY, GOODNESS!
It went down hill from there. I was resisting the smell, but the minute I touched the bread it was over!! I slathered a pat of butter on that bad boy and down the hatchet it went!!!!
My 3 year streak WAS DONE!!!! 3 years without bread or sugar!!!!
I ended up eating two (very thin) slices. I decided right then and there that I would NOT CONTINUE this tomorrow. This day may have been shot but I wouldn’t allow it to detour my long term journey!!
That same night my daughter wanted to make yeast donuts. No problem. We did that too. Yes, I ate a donut also.
I felt SO SICK! Like so sick! I forgot about that too. My body was screaming at me and I heard it (and felt it).
I took my sick self and helped my daughter (because she can’t drive yet) to take those deliveries to her best friends house. I insisted all the CARBage needed to be out of the house THAT NIGHT! It couldn’t wait until tomorrow because I didn’t want the temptation there again when I woke up!
I went right back to keto the next day. I have an eating window of 8 hours and fast for 16 hours. This combination is the BEST way to get back into ketosis quickly! PROMISE!!
I eat breakfast at 10am and I eat dinner at about 5:30ish. I fast from 6pm till 10 the next morning. This works like a charm! Coffee can be had but without cream or sweetener. Black coffee only. Drink plenty of water.
My metabolism must be getting better because if I made a mistake in the past and kicked myself out of ketosis, I would have had to do a 36 hour fast to get back in. I’ve been doing keto a long time so I think it’s easier to get back into ketosis now.
I figured I would share just in case you wanted to relate to falling off the wagon.
There are some of you that can fall off the wagon one day a week and be just fine. I am not that person. I know this. If you are, kudos to you!! That’s awesome!
I think the best part of my journey is knowing what to do and knowing when to come back. YOU CAN DO IT!!!
I’ve been testing a new breathe meter that I got from the Metabolic Health summit a few months ago. You guys, I LOVE THIS THING! I used to poke my finger to get my blood and glucose readings. I hate testing my blood. This is the ONLY breathe meter that is clinically backed! In fact, they sold out at the health summit because all the keto people bought them out!!! It’s fantastic!!
This Ketone Breathe meter is made by BioSense. It comes with 3 different mouth pieces! You can share this meter with other members of your family!
It’s really easy to use too. Just turn it on. Wait for the machine to calibrate. Then press the start button and blow into the machine until it beeps. It gives you a reading in about 1 to 2 minutes. EASY!! It also has a rechargeable cord so you don’t have to worry about batteries either.
Now that I don’t have to test my blood, I find that I test way more often. I test after I eat all the time because I want to know what foods cause me to dip my ketone reading. So far I’ve been right on track.
I think there’s something psychological that happens when you test because I have been so strict just trying to keep my number in a fat-burning zone. Any number over 5 is in the fat burning zone! Love it!! My lowest number so far has been a 5 and my highest has been a 16!
There really is a simple way on How To Get Back On Track With KETO!
The three simple steps to getting back into ketosis after a cheat:
